Mervyn Peake

Mervyn Laurence Peake (9 July 1911 - 17 November 1968) is an English writer, artist, poet and illustrator. He is generally known for his work called Gormenghast books.
The three works were part of the work Peake had designed as a long cycle, but the series was not completed due to the death of the author. These studies are sometimes compared with the work of J. R. R. Tolkien, but the author's surreal fiction was influenced by Charles Dickens and Robert Louis Stevenson.

In 2008, The Times included Peake in the list of "the top 50 British writers since 1945".
